I think authors being more on social media allow fans to find out about special editions earlier in the series. The first SubPress Dresdens and Malazan came out in 2008 and 2009, respectively. But we'll never know until the later purchasers are trying to find the early ones!

Kevin Hearne tweeted he is in the process of another SF release. Iron Druid series is still priced very fairly. I wonder if ID will become the next Dresden set? Very rare..not very cheap.
